Seattle Catalog LLC, 2011–2014

Seattle Catalog LLC, or Sea-Cat for short, was a collaboration between Gretchen Bennett, Wynne Greenwood and Matthew Offenbacher. Sea-Cat was a for-profit limited liability corporation incorporated in September 2011 and dissolved in September 2014. It was a teaching / learning art gallery, classroom and catalog sales business.

We made two print and online catalogs (one and two and www.seacat.co) offering the work of thirty artists. From our mission statement:

In our experience, the selling of work can feel removed from the experience of community and meaningful connection. We are interested in opening up the access to and experience of art purchasing and selling. Sea-Cat engages individual practices, involving creators from various communities and backgrounds. Our goals include: building an audience for and selling experimental artwork; creating interdisciplinary, intergenerational, and transitive programming; nurturing individual practices into new and fruitful areas; examining and re-evaluating the idea of ‘value’.

In addition to the sales catalogs, Sea-Cat made an artwork for the Tacoma Art Museum’s 10th Northwest Biennial, an exhibition for the Hedreen Gallery at Seattle University, a pop-up shop at Cafe Weekend, a lecture at Evergreen College, an artist grant, a video about collective art collecting, and a class at the University of Washington.
